Punchy, warm, analog drums. Created using high-end outboard and a compulsive attention to detail... this 808 sample set is pure analog drum heaven.
Why have I created another TR-808 sample set?
For a start the 808 is one of my favorite drum machines! Secondly I thought I could offer something a little different. This sample pack has been recorded at a higher sampler rate and has extensive Round Robin treatment to recreate the feel and movement of an analog drum machine (Maschine can't utilise round robin yet) .
The Tape808 used tape to give it extra Mojo... this time I have used some high end outboard including EM-PEQ eq, UBK Fatso, Great River 32EQ... Tasty...
Is there anything else that is different?
Yes there certainly is. This pack has tuned chromatic BD and Conga patches. So you can play them on your keyboard! (EXS24, Kontakt and Battery)
What is Round Robin? This is a function of some samplers where you can alternate between a number of different samples when a drum sound is triggered. I think this a good way to help capture the movement and feel of analog drum machines.
The Maschine version of the SuperAnalog808 does not utilise the round robin samples in this pack as Maschine does not have this feature yet. However if Maschine one day gets this functionality then the samples are there ready to implement it!
Will 96 kHz samples work in 44.1 kHz projects? Short answer... Yes they will. Long answer... DAWs and software samplers have real time sample rate converters. So it won't matter what sample rate your samples are at. Of course if your project is running at 96 kHz then these samples will certainly sound much better!
What kind of outboard was used for sweetening? Great River Harrison 32 EQ, A-Design EM-PEQ, Kush Audio UBK Fatso, Mutronics Mutator, Crowther Audio - Prunes & Custard, Malekko - B:Assmaster, Boss - Dimension C
Are there 808 drum samples without extra processing? Yes indeed. I have included a large number of raw samples.
Is the SuperAnalog808 better than the Tape808? Yes and no. I think they have different strengths. The Tape808 has got that lovely old school tape vibe and a huge palette of 808 sounds. The SuperAnalog808 has 96Hz sample rate, Round Robin layering and tasty analog outboard sweetening.
You will need the full Retail version of Kontakt 3 or 4 to use the Kontakt patches. This product will only work in demo mode in the free Kontakt Player.
